services for dogs, cats and small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, birds)
in the Nashua, Hudson and Litchfield areas. Whether your pet needs routine
care such as a nail trim or is under the care of a licensed veterinarian
for a health issue, we can help.
Families love their pets, but often need assistance when it comes to
their pet's
routine health care
such as monthly nail trimming, ear cleaning, coat care and clipping mats.
Often people are not sure how to properly perform these tasks for their pet
and simply forget to do it.
Nails should be trimmed on a monthly basis or they will become
overgrown. Most pets do not get enough exercise to naturally wear down
their nails to an appropriate length. When nails overgrow, it affects
your pet's mobility (standing, walking and running) and can place stress
and cause pain on their body, from their feet and legs to their neck and
backbone. Nails that are severely overgrown, can start to grow into the
foot pads, causing injury, pain and even infections. If this starts to
occur, please consult your veterinarian to examine and treat the affected
nails. So, if you find yourself, skipping the all important monthly nail
trim and need a helping hand, give us a call. We can help keep your pet's
nails in tip-top shape by trimming them on a regular schedule in your home.
Ears should also be checked on a regular basis and cleaned as
needed. Dogs with floppy ears (ex: Spaniels, Labs) are often prone to
ear infections and should be monitored carefully for signs of debris,
parasites or infection. Head shaking, pawing/scratching/rubbing at ears,
sensitivitiy when touched, can all be signs that your pet is having a
problem with his ears and should be seen by your veterinarian. For routine
ear, cleaning give us a call for assistance. Or, if you find yourself
unable to effectively treat your pet's ear infections, with the medication
prescribed by your veterinarian, we would be happy to assist you with your
pet's at home care.
All pets require regular coat care and brushing to keep them
healthy. Brushing helps to remove dirt, loosen hairs from shedding,
prevent mats and stimulates the skin and circulation. While some breeds
require the services of professional groomers, the coat care needs of
many pets can be maintained by their families. However, some pets may
need assistance from their owners in order to maintain a healthy, clean
coat. Animals that are ill, elderly or overweight, often have a difficult
time with hygiene and as a result develop mats in their hair or fur. Mats,
as they thicken, will begin to pull on the pet's skin, causing discomfort.
In addition, dirt, debris or parasites can become logged in and under
the mats, causing irritations which can develop into hot spots and
infections (which are often hidden by the mat) and need to be treated
by your veterinarian immediately. Proper coat care is essential for
your pet's health and well being, so please let us assist you if need
some help with maintaining your pet's coat or clipping out mats.
Pets usually are more relaxed in their homes and will accept routine
health care more willing. If you find you need assistance with these or
other health care issues, please let us help. We can perform these tasks
for your pet in your home, on a schedule that is convenient for you. If
you would like to learn how to perform your pet's health care, we can
teach you how, in the privacy of your home and on your own schedule.

However, when a beloved pet develops a
health issue
such as diabetes, corneal ulcer (eye), hyperthyroidism, chronic
renal failure (kidneys) or has extensive surgery, families are often
at a loss for how to properly provide their daily care.
In their life time, many pets will develop a temporary illness or
injury requiring care on a short term basis (days or weeks) such as
a broken limb, wounds, hot spots, a urinary tract infection or minor surgery.
For other pets, a chronic illness such as renal failure or
diabetes, means they will require daily care for the rest of their lives.
Even though their veterinarian explains and demonstrates how to care
for their ill pet and administer medications or subcutaneous fluids, owners
are often too overwhelmed with the task, may be embarrassed to ask for further
assistance or hands-on instruction or are afraid they will injure their pet
while caring for it. As a result, pets often receive inconsistent care at home,
do not receive all of their prescribed medication and have a slow recovery or
even relapse from their illness.
If your veterinarian has asked you to perform health care for your
chronically ill pet, but you do not feel comfortable doing so, we can
help by providing personalized care for your ill pet. Please call or
email to discuss your pet's needs, so we can design a schedule that is
appropriate for both you and your ill pet, and adheres to your
veterinarians instructions.
If you would like to learn how to provide the daily care for your
ill pet, we can offer one-on-one instructions in your home. We can
teach you the skills you need to safely care for your beloved pet.
